Nick Scott

Nick Scott

Nick has been Windsurfing for 23 years starting when he was only 12! He started using an Open class Dufour Wing that was really not his cup of tea. In 1984 his father bought him a Fanatic Racy Cat which was a fun board and his love of the sport really took off. He was lucky enough to live 2 minutes walk from the water and for a school project produced a sailing trolley to transport his gear to the water. (“I’ve have never had so much sailing time as I did for those early years learning to sail a fun board”).

Nick in his early years won many local Regattas’ including on several occasions the World known Hayling Island Sailing Club 2 Harbours Winter decanter.

By the age of 16, Nick was in the British Youth Team, and placed 2nd youth nationally on the series, by 19 he had not only qualified and sailed in the British World Cup Event held in Cornwall, but was the third placed Sponsored Sailor on the National Series.

Nick joined the army in 1990 and was 5 times Army National Champion and 2 times combined Services Champion. Nick was the only Non Commissioned Officer to hold the position of Captain of the Army Windsurfing Team and was awarded his Corps and Army colours for services to the sport.

Nick was awarded this Trophy in 1993 for his outstanding success as an ambassador to the sport after winning, The REME individual, The Inter-Corps Team Championships, The Army Championships, Combined Services Championships, The Inter-Services Championships and The National Amateur Class BWA Series Championships.

Nick after leaving the army rejoined the Gold Fleet professional circuit in 2000, where he achieved 24th overall combined position for slalom/freerace and Formula Windsurfing out of 40 competitors but had to stop sailing for the last couple of years due to a reoccurring back injury.

This year is a training year for Nick but he is already finishing in the top 5 in National Formula Racing races and is currently ranked number 3 in National Slalom competition.

Nick feels that his training regime over the winter and regular on water training has certainly help accomplish good results this year (Particularly due to the fact he Married Caroline over Christmas who helped beef him up to 85Kgs with her good home cooking and her support during the racing events).
